Block Printing

Block Printing is an age-old craft of printing texts, images, or patterns on textiles using wooden blocks. This traditional method of creating patterns on textile/paper is about patience, practice and precision. I happened to learn this art from a block print artist based in Mumbai.

And indeed I thought it’s like therapy. Each block creates a different pattern and weaves a unique story. Designs are sketched and then carved on the wooden blocks and eventually printed on fabrics.

This whole process is so gratifying. I’m always in awe of our country and it’s richness in the diversity of varied art forms. Each state = A distinctive art !! Learning and photographing this one, was truly magical.
